Hello Everyone.

I m sure many of you are as frustrated as I am that Linksys has yet to provide Vista 64-bit drivers for the LNE100TX. I happen to work in the IT field and frankly there is no excuse for this. Vista has been out for two years now, and most people are buying the 64-bit version of the OS. Even more frustrating, this card is still being sold in retail outlets as a current item, WITH NO VISTA DRIVERS. Yes, it s almost unbelievable. Which is why I have decided to take matters into my own hands, since apparently, Linksys is doing jack to resolve the situation.

After doing some research, I found that the LNE100TX uses the same hardware as the Infineon an983b. However, the 64-bit drivers are virtually impossible to find. After exhaustive research, I found out that Windows Update has 64-bit drivers for the an983b, not for Vista, but XP 64-bit. Luckily, these drivers work for Vista 64-bit as well. I have tested these drivers and they work perfectly with the LNE100TX running in Vista 64-bit. Personally, I ll never buy another Linksys product for as long as I live, but for those of you that have already made the mistake I have provided the drivers on my personal website, so you don t have to search through Microsoft s hellishly user unfriendly update site.

Download LNE100TX Vista 64-bit compatible drivers:

Enjoy.

Go to control panel, then find the device manager. In there expand the Network adaptors thingy, I have no idea what the card is named before it s unidentified but you should be able to figure out which one it is easily.

Make sure the downloaded drivers are unzipped already, and then proceed right click the unidentified network card in the device manger, click Update Driver Sfotware. It ll give the option to search autoamtically online or browse on your comptuer. Obviously the online option would fail so browse on your computer.

From ther it s pretty simple, point to the driver folder and click ok. This would be a solution for Vista/7 by the way. XP 64bit should be similar if that s what you re using.

Geez, I guess they really want this card to die. I know the drivers work for Vista 64bit, as I m using them right now. However, I don t have Windows 7 to test with. I figured that because it worked on XP 64bit and Vista 64bit, that it would work on 7 64bit as well. Apparently not. And people ask me why I m always running a older version of Windows, bah hahaha. Maybe it s because I don t want Windows to tell me:

Surprise. Time to replace perfectly good components that were working fine just moments before you inserted the install disc, because Microsoft and the HW venders can t come to a freaking agreement about drivers.

Edit: What is even more puzzling, is the fact that Windows 7 still uses the Vista kernel. There is no reason what so ever why they shouldn t work, unless the way Windows 7 handles drivers was changed to accommodate planned obsolescence.

Just unzip the file that you have downloaded from the below attachment and then right click on the ified network card in the device manger and click update driver, you will get 2 options, simply choose browse and then choose the file that you have unzipped on your computer and install it, if eveything is done properly, then the unidentified device message on the device manage will not appear and that means that you have sucessfully install the driver for the ethernet card, it will work for Windows 7 64 bit OS well, so you need not have to worry if you want to install it in vista as well.

Downloaded file, unzipped, device manager browse to new folder but won t display the files in the folder. Help.
